Green Practice

Being a Greener Practice

We are proud to call ourselves a ‘Greener Practice’

The public is becoming increasingly aware of the climate and ecological crisis as an important issue facing the world. At Hillcrest Surgery we try our best to be mindful of our environmental impact.

Climate change affects food quality, availability and diversity, and thus affects nutrition. Temperature and rain alters the way diseases spread. Recent research attributes 37% of heat-related deaths to human-induced climate change (Cited www.WHO.int 27.09.2024). It is really important that we, as a GP Practice, try and do what we can to help the cause.

We have completed the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) ‘Green Impact for Health Toolkit’ which helps us identify the ways in which we can reduce our practice expenses; reduce our carbon footprint; and adapt to climate changes.

For instance, we monitor our electricity expenditure and encourage our staff to turn off the lights when leaving a room. We do not print unnecessarily and encourage our patients to allow text messages or emails from the surgery. We have lots of recycling bins dotted around the building and we pay BANES to collect our recycling, so we recycle everything that we can. If you would like us to contact you via text message or email please let us know.

Although we can only make small changes, these will have a big environmental impact over time.
